The shocking incident involving the harassment of a lawyer at Jodhpur’s Kudi Police Station has triggered massive public anger across Rajasthan — and the judiciary has responded with decisive action.
The SHO accused of assaulting advocate Bharat Singh has already been suspended, and the Rajasthan High Court has ordered mandatory behavioural and communication training for every police officer in the state.
After watching the viral video, the High Court sternly pulled up Police Commissioner Om Prakash, stressing that police officers must know how to speak, how to behave, and how to treat citizens with dignity. The bench directed the Commissioner and the state government to roll out a comprehensive soft-skills training program across the police force without delay.
During the hearing, the Commissioner informed the court that:
An IPS officer is now heading the investigation,
The SHO has been removed from duty, and
Other staff involved have been transferred.
The court has demanded a detailed probe report within one week.
According to the allegations, SHO Hamir Singh and other personnel manhandled the advocate, tore his coat, and threatened him with arrest under Section 151, even attempting to intimidate him with the claim that they could have him expelled from the Bar. The entire incident was recorded by the advocate and submitted before the court.
The High Court made its position crystal clear:
Unwarranted force, intimidation, or disrespect towards lawyers will not be tolerated.
Lawyers are officers of the court — and they have every right to question the police in the interest of justice.
This case stands as a powerful reminder: policing must be strict, lawful, and disciplined — but never abusive, never arrogant, and never above accountability.
